in automated material movement, a transfer partner that takes no part in the physical micro level transfer, moving nothing within the transfer envelope. NOTE-This term refers to the physical micro level transfer phase only. Setup activities prior to the transfer may be performed by a passive transfer partner; for example, a port door may be opened during setup phase.
