characterizes the onset of turbulence in a tube.  Re = 2vr(rho)/n, where n=viscosity, r=radius of tube, rho=density of the fluid, v=velocity of the fluid;  If Re<2000, there is laminar flow;  if Re>2000, there is turbulent flow .
